Deep Campus
DEEP R&D Ltd is developing a 20ha site with an 80m deep flooded quarry as the world’s most capable facility from which to design, manufacture, assemble, trial and test sub-sea equipment, and to train the people who will use it.
Radcliffes have overseen delivery of a range of early works packages to convert the former quarry site to a facility suitable for the Client. These works packages include rock stabilisation via scaling, block removal or securing as required, and installation of containment safety mesh systems. A second such workstream involved the design, engineering and procurement of waterside and on water infrastructure including 40-tonne pontoon modules that were configured into operational islands, along with linking walkway pontoons running between these islands.
Radcliffes Environmental was appointed to advise on the detailed design of the campus, with particular emphasis on integrating the facility into this unique environment. Key aspects of the design include: long term management of several protected species, including hazel dormouse and bats; incorporating residential cabins, a new training centre, operational offices and manufacturing facilities into an extreme environment.
