The Baltic Exchange
The Baltic Exchange is a Grade II listed commercial building located in the City of London, built in 1922 and designed by RIBA Gold medal award winner Sir Edwin Cooper. Over time the Baltic Exchange interiors had become tired, coupled with unsympathetic alterations, and bomb damage given its proximity to the IRA blast site adjacent.
The brief was to restore The Baltic Exchange beyond its former glory and to establish itself as a premium commercial offering in the City of London. With the addition of the rooftop terrace, localised remodeling of the exterior, and the upgrading of windows, MEP, and thermal performance, the building will seek to attain the highest possible sustainability standards and achieve a BREEAM “Outstanding” rating.
Our Role
''The Baltic Exchange has been designed to the highest environmental standards, with a target rating of BREEAM Outstanding.''
Radcliffes acted as Project Managers and Employer’s Agent for the scheme. Appointed at an early stage, Radcliffes oversaw the design development through to securing planning consent and the procurement of the construction works.
Our Impact
The protracted decant of rooftop telecoms operators impacted the anticipated commencement date of the works. Radcliffes oversaw the tender, procurement, and mobilisation of an initial strip out contract ahead of the appointment of the Principal Contractor, working collaboratively to identify opportunities to improve on programme to ensure further programme risks were identified early and mitigated throughout the works.
